How to overcome confusion and find clarity

Confusion is something that plagues each and every one of us. Whether it's being unsure of your life's purpose or where to take your next holiday, at some point, we all find ourselves in situations where we simply don't know which way to turn.

When these circumstances arise it can feel as though we are stuck, trapped in the mud and unable to move. This feeling of powerlessness then causes us to over analyse the situation, trying desperately to “think” our way out only resulting in more overwhelm, stress and anxiety.

But the truth is: unless we change our energy around the situation we will never find the clarity we desire. Why? Because the vibration of the solution is entirely different to the vibration of the problem.

Luckily, there are some simple actions you can take to help you change your energy, overcome the confusion and find clarity.

  1. Morning Pages. This an exercise from Julia Cameron’s book: The Artist’s Way. Just as the name suggests, as soon as you wake up in the morning you need to document your thoughts onto blank pages. What you write does not need to be perfect or even make sense. The point of the exercise is to clear your mind of the same old repetitive thoughts and allow new ones to arise. These new thoughts will be of a different vibration, a new creative energy that can help you find the solution to your problem.

  2. Mindfulness. When you practice mindfulness you invite presence into your life. And, as you invite more presence into your life, your intuition becomes clearer. As Paramahansa Yogananda says: “Come into the silence of solitude, and the vibration there will walk you through the voice of god”. The more you pay attention to the call of your intuition and act on it, the stronger it will become and the clearer you will feel.

  3. Decluttering. One of my favourite manifesting exercises and a must for removing confusion. Abraham-Hicks calls it: Clearing clutter for clarity. Just as morning pages allow you to free up space in your mind, decluttering allows you to create physical space for new energy to come through. If you feel completely overwhelmed with where to start, my advice is to begin in the area where you feel the confusion.

For example: If you feel confused in your career, tidy your desk, delete old files on your computer and unsubscribe from newsletters you don't read.

  4. Meditation. When you feel stressed it is almost impossible to have clarity in your thinking. Even a short 10-minute meditation can have a huge impact on reducing stress levels and removing feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. The more frequently you can put yourself into a state of calm, the clearer your thinking will become. Self hypnosis can be another powerful way to do this.

  5. Clarity Exercise. Funnily enough, sometimes it can be easier for us to gain clarity about what it is we want, by looking at what we don't want.

This simple exercise can be accomplished by dividing a page into 2 parts and listing all of the things you don’t want (in your career, love life etc) on one side, and then all the things you do want on the other.

*You will find that by first bringing awareness to what you don't want it will be easy to see what you do want because it will naturally be its opposite.
